And we're done

For the tenth and final movie character that resonated with me the most, I had trouble a) finding one that should be in the top ten, and b) picking which one of the second-stringers to promote to the big leagues. Rather than make it a top 9 list, I decided that for #10 I would put together my dream team of remaining awesome movie characters so I don't have to close with any irritating honorable mentions. So, again in no particular order, here are the members of my crew:

The Joker, played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight

Favorite Quote: Do I even have to say it? "Why so serious?" Although I liked the disappearing pencil trick better, but it’s not a quote.
Why he's on the team: capable of creating cruel moral dilemmas and has a great sense of humor. Batman wouldn't know a good joke if it bit him in the cape.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter played by Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs

Favorite Quote: "I'm having an old friend for dinner."
Why he's on the team: he's insightful and can cook.

Kakihara played by Tadanobu Asano in Ichi the Killer

Favorite Quote: "There's no love in your violence."
Why he's on the team: he's poetic in his sadomasochism, plus he has cut his cheeks open so he can catch your fist in his mouth.

Archangel Gabriel played by Christopher Walken in The Prophecy

Favorite Quote: "I'm an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch."
Why he's on the team: I wanted to include a good guy, and he's played by Christopher effin Walken.

Lucifer played by Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy

Favorite Quote: "I love you! I love you more than Jesus!"
Why he's on the team: he's the freaking devil, already, which means He's like god but not as boring.

FLoyd played by Brad Pitt in True Romance

Favorite Quote: "Hey! Get some beer and some cleaning products!"
Why he's on the team: He has potato chips and is good with a snappy comeback after the other person has left the room. "Don't condescend me, man. I'll fuckin' kill ya, man." - said to the space formerly occupied by James Gandolfini, playing the quintessential James Gandolfini role.

Honorable mentions:

57 suicidal Japanese schoolgirls played by various J-bunnies in Suicide Club.

Awwww...aren't they cute?

Genesis played by Rolly in Suicide club.

Without him, the movie wouldn't have had a musical number, and that would have been tragic.

Nice choice on The Prophecy.

Walken in anything rules.

Heath ruled as the joker.

walken? one can never have enough cowbell.

I haven't seen Tru Romance in like 15 years or something, I barely remember anything about it, this means I must watch it again. I'll probably appreciate it more now anyway, I don't remember exactly GETTING it at the time.

Can you believe that I've seen neither True Romance nor The Prophecy? It appears that I now have two more movies to watch.

Poor J-bunnies. Think maybe you'll start showing pictures of some that aren't about to jump/jumping in front of a moving light-rail train?

I guess I'm going to have to see "Suicide Club." It looks so cheery and uplifting.

I'm really shocked Brad Pitt made your list, really.

How about some female actors?

Captain Dumbass - it's a good Catholic film. It would make a great double-feature teamed with Dogma.

Ricardo - Walken and Hopper had a nice scene together in True Romance.

dr.alistair - hopefully he'll be remembered for more than that at the end of his career.

Robin - see if you get something more out of the Walken / Hopper scene than the way Walken's henchman describes it. I think he missed the point.

Mighty Hunter - I prefer the suicidal ones because they might just be desperate enough to date me.

Jay - mass bunny suicide (more than just that scene) and a musical number from a guy who proudly proclaims "I'm the Charles Manson of the Information Age!" What's not to love? No J-boobies, though, but that's the only mistake made.

Marsha - the list was about movie characters, so it was actually Floyd who made the list (and that was a joke). Check back to #2 on my list and you'll see that Eihi Shiina made my top ten.

Okay the only one I agree with is Hannibal Lector - awesome + classy!

Awesome list. Someday I'll be on it or more likely Ricardo will be after he gets more gigs.

I recall it vividly. that was great work.

Dude, how did you miss Alan Rickman in "Die Hard"?

I'm so disappointed.

All movies should have a musical number.

Dr.Alistair said...

no, all movies should not have a musical number.

that`s why those movies have a warning that says, warning; musical...or at least they should, so that i don`t accidently rent one of them.

and i think that nayone who truly appreciates walken will remember him for more than cowbell.

and heath was really intense as the joker. a more psycho boy that nicholson by far. less cartoony, and frighteningly real.

I think I want to go watch The Prophecy again. What a cool movie.

Monogram Queen - don't you like Viggo Mortensen too, or was that just the PQ?

SJ - remember that it's a list of my favorite movie characters, not serial killers.

Ricardo - Walken + Hopper doing Tarantino dialog is a no-fail situation.

R - he was cool, but further down my list. I actually liked him better as Metatron.

tiff - I agree.

dr.alistair - tiff and I disagree about the musical, but I'm with you on Heath's Joker.

Avitable - I want to rewatch it again, although I seem to remember that the sequels had little to offer except Christopher Walken.

I loved Batman! This was definitely a movie to see on the big screen. I was disappointed by the lack of block busters this summer. Last summer was hot with batman, iron man, ... and?? I know there were others.

Hit 40 - I'm glad I got to see Dark Knight in IMAX format, although I was disappointed that they didn't release Iron Man on the really big screen.
