Quick Update

I signed up for my first ten week batch of Japanese Language classes. They start next Saturday. Yesterday I took a little time to scope the location. Fortunately it’s less than twelve miles from my home and not too hard to find, although the traffic in that area is monstrous even on the weekend.

Today I went to Target (woot – party). I wondered if I would encounter my newest redneck neighbor when I left. Sooner or later I’m going to run into this freak again and I wonder if I’ll be able to brush him off without the encounter turning violent. I managed to get him out of my car the last time in a nonviolent manner, but he’s a drunk and not altogether there so there’s no telling what will happen the next time he demands a ride or money or something from me and doesn’t get it. As soon as I left the apartment, I heard the jangling of keys above me as somebody locked their door and I thought “Okay, here we go.” It turned out to be a plump black lady who smiled and said hello.

When I got back, I pulled into an open spot and noticed there was somebody sitting in the battered sedan next to me. As I unloaded my packages, one of the hillbilly’s roommates (the one who accepted the Pepsi and malt liquor from him the other time) walked out dressed in a waitress’s uniform and gave me a smile of recognition. When she hopped in the car with the other woman I caught her scent – cheap perfume overlaying cheaper booze. At least she didn’t ask me to give her a ride to work, although that’s probably coming.

I’m living in Bizarro world – my black neighbors are warm and friendly and the white people make me want to move. Could it be that racial stereotypes are not always one hundred percent correct? Has the Klan been lying to me all these years? That tears it. I’m turning in my sheets. Besides, they always complained about the broad stripes and paisleys I wore to the meetings, but it couldn’t be helped. Plane white makes me look hippy.

Further bulletins as events warrant.

I just don't understand! Gosh golly!

Being Canadian just shields me from so much.

Good luck with your class and beware of redneck neighbours lying in wait.

Hi, thanks for stopping by and saying hello. I'm going to have a poke around in your archives, if that doesn't sound too provocative.

Love the photo on your profile by the way, I hope it's an Army photo - either that or you have some very big vermin?

Good luck. I'm sure you're going to have a good time learning the language.

Yes, the KKK has been lying to you.

Suddenly I'm reminded of that skit with the blind black man who doesn't know he's black and so he's a white supremacist...

Your crazy neighbors sound like they're related to my husband.

Your redneck neighbors sound kinda scary... good luck with them.

And good luck with Japanese, too. It's a really fun language. Just ask if you need any help with it.

Haha, I like how I just ended up repeating what your other commentors said :P

Imagine that! Maybe it will help to speak Japanese to the redneck neighbors. At least it should throw them a little.
