Now for a matter of serious importance

I've heard that some people actually eat the skins of baked potatoes. Is this true?

The skins are delicious. Especially if you smother the potato with butter and then put it in a 500 degree oven for like 15 minutes or so, then turn it down to 400 til it's ready. That way the skin will be crispy.

Also, you should be sure to push your potato skins around in the juices from your steak. That's REALLY yummy!

Yes, IF it is a new potato - I'll give the skin a good scrub. If it's an older 'tater or I'm not sure where it's been I will usually peel it off as I'm eating it.

Unless I feel too lazy. Or am completely apathetic that day.

Jay is correct, only he forgot the melted cheese.

messiah, where do you think your potatoes might have been?

i buy mine from the local italian grocer. i feel assured that, of all the fruit and veg. available to him, the potato is low on the list of those he would wish to bundle up his ass...and in that frame of mind, i generally give them a good scub under cold water before confidently microwaving them and eating with the pre-requisite butter and sour cream.

and frankly, up until now i`ve never been concerned that one of the little fuckers had been up a wops ass.

oh yeah, and um...skins on. absolutely.

you probably do not wan to eat the skins. After all the washing and scrubbing, it is still the place where all the vitamins are, the rest of the potato is just starch.

Um, yeah, the skins are awesome. Weirdo.

Dear Dr.,
That particular thought had never crossed my mind up until now, although I will never be able to see potatoe skins with bacon bits the same again.

I just meant general shipping & handling, pesticides, that idiot at the store who sneezed three times into their hand and then fondled all of the potatoes.

I think you may need to sort things out with your grocer :/

no messiah, that conversation could get weird....

Mmm...tater peels.....

If baked we remove the peels but when fried they are just washed.

Sprouts on the potato skin are poisonous to humans, so those should be removed. Also, if the skins cover a greenish tinge, the greenish part means it's an older potato and that part should be taken off too. Otherwise, skins are really healthy for you and rather tasty when you kill the healthy part by smothering it with cheese, sour cream, and bacon :P

Yes and I am one of them.

Jay - sounds great, except that with my medical problems I don't eat heavy foods like potatoes, butter or steak. I wonder if that works with rice and gyoza?

messiah - I'm not worried as long as the potato has never been in the dirt. That would be gross.

Captain Dumbass - cheese is also one of those things I rarely eat, so I'll substitute soy sauce.

dr.alistair - where does the butter and sour cream rate on the up the grocer's ass list?

Whitemist - yes, I need to avoid those unhealthy vitamins.

Tracy Lynn - eating potato skins sounds like the debbil's bidness to we'uns around here.

messiah - first veggies up the butt, now your grocer is fondling them? Bunch of vegesexuals.

dr.alistair - not if it's handled with taste. Try saying "tushy" instead of "pooter".

metalmom - do you ever eat the peels and throw out the taters?

metalmom - deja vu.

SJ - sounds like how I do them.

Kira - that sounds great except for the potato, sour cream, cheese, and bacon. I'll substitute with noodles.

tiff - damn skippy.

Baked potatoes are like dating in that getting some skin at the end if often the best part of the whole experience.

Avitable said...

Yup. A crispy skin covered in butter and sour cream is better than the potato.

Grant said...

Neath - too many people here get aroused by potatoes.

Avitable - I assume you have to eat that in 4 oz portions.

It is and I'm not a fan!

Ricardo - finally, a fellow potato skin hater. Let's form our own religion.

The skins are yummy. I make them the way they do at Outback. I wash it really good and then roll it in butter and kosher salt. Then wrap it it foil and bake. Mmmmm. You should try it some time, it's great!

April - I think I'll just stick with my rice and curry.
