Grant Brain No Function Well Sleep Without

I was working on a great and witty post about J-horror and porn and anime and how the lines between each are not very distinct and how I love Asian women (you may be sick of hearing about that) (but that’s unpossible) even though I do NOT have yellow fever, but I haven’t had enough sleep to do anything coherent today so it will have to wait until next week.

Quick warning – if you’re reading this, don’t bother. I’m just typing some random thoughts with the few brain cells that are still firing. I need to keep my fingers busy so I don’t collapse on my desk. I made the mistake of playing the Sims again last night, so I’m going on just a few hours of sleep. I have to avoid this mistake in the future. Fridays were once slow but easy days. Now I’m not only expected to work but I have a private resson after I leave here.

On the Asian front, I have decided to stop using the honorific “san” when referring to attractive women. From now on, I will use “usagi” instead. I’m not looking forward to talking to sensei-usagi tonight. It’s such an emasculating affair I need all my energy to face her.

Last night while studying, I replayed the tape she made for me with her pronunciation of a few difficult key words. She has a lovely voice – lilting and musical, but not falsely energetic. I like to study on my bed and it was funny hearing her voice coming from the pillow beside me. I imagined her being there with me. I wanted to reach over, run my fingers through her glossy hair, then grab her by her skull, drag her over to the fireplace, and smash her face into the bricks. She’s a lovely woman, but I can’t get over the fact that I’m paying her more than I’m worth to castigate me.

When I arrive for my Friday night class, I get there early and study in the room next to hers. A teenaged boy and his girlfriend have her before me, and it always sounds like they’re having a ball. When it’s my turn, the mood becomes somber and businesslike. I wonder if she hates me as much as I hate her. Of course, I don’t hate her. True, I’d like to make her into a belt, but that’s just the negative connotation of being associated with the learning process, which I’ve come to view as painful as a root canal, except that a root canal only takes one afternoon. She probably doesn’t hate me, even though I’m no fun. I’m just a meal ticket to her. So, instead of a love/hate relationship, we have like/irritation on my end and professional disinterest on hers.

Okay, if you’re still with me, I’m in need of some input. I’ve been reading this book and it gave me an idea for another 30 day trial – the Asian diet. The book only mentions Japanese food, but I thought I would expand it to include any Asian food since all of the Japanese recipes I’ve read so far seem difficult and time-consuming. I may or may not switch from beer to sake and plum wine; we’ll see. Anybody who knows a good (and easy) Asian dish to make, please send it my way.

Die, Friday. Just fecking die!

A quick and easy Asian recipe. Hm... [thumbs through dusty book called 'Hag's Easy Asian Consumables']

Aha... here we go ...
Buy some Uncle Ben's quick microwave white rice and disregard instructions on back. Toss into a wok with some peanut oil. Fling on the contents of three of those free soy sauce packets you wisely kept after your last take-out. Heat to a gentle sizzle. Stir. Count to about 70 and remove wok from heat. Slam it into a bowl and voila ... a fine any-night meal.

CAUTION: if you have one of those lethal peanut allergies, you probably shouldn't be eating anything but rice cakes with water

Easiest Asian Food - hmm, I am quite partial to Steamed Rice with Steamed Veg on the side and maybe a little grilled meat or fish -
Clean flavours and not a lot of fecking around. If you really want some ... recipes that is, email me.

did that make sense to u coz it makes perfect sense to me...

u into real asian food or the watered down western commercialised verison? which is probably most of it...
[anything u get in a supermarket which is widen enough fors a trolley is westernised]

vietnamese red rice:
tomato paste, tomoato sauce, garlic, rice...
add garlic into a wok, lightly brown, add tomato sauce/paste, stir cooked white rice in...
best stuff u'll ever had, serve with pork chops and fresh cucumber

the hardest thing is getting some viet pork chops...yum!

That book sounds interesting. I once bought one of those books about how French woman don't get fat, with lots of recipes for high calorie, fat-loaded food. Hmmm, funny but that diet didn't work so well.

Friday is dead, happy Saturday!

I have a good Asian recipe - it involves Speed Dial #3 (the local Asian food restaurant I absolutely love).

Dammit, Leesa said the exact same thing I was going to write. Erm...please don't ask me how I know about speed dial #3 on her phone.

weary hag - I don't know how authentic that is, but it sounds like a good snack to me. My favorite thing on rise is the Chinese hot mustard.

mel - thanks. I'll e-mail you for some...of whatever I can get.

aka fatty - I'm going for authentic, but I'll probably have to settle for some Westernized as well. Georgia is not overrun with Asian markets, but I'll do what I can.

~deb - thanks. I'll have several drinks in you name, just so I can blame the hangover on you.

eternity - Japan's obesity rate is 3%, which is up from what it once was. They're blaming Western influences (aka Ronald McDonald).

pbs - I don't know the French secret. It's probably portion size and a more active lifestyle. In the same book I read, I also read that the French have the 2nd highest daily caloric intake, next to us fat Americans (of course).

spider-girl - you're preaching to the (very tired) converted here.

liz - I'm slightly better rested and my tutor will likely survive until I'm through with her, but thanks for checking on me.

ttd - between drinks and the Sims, yes I did.

leesa - I know that one. We have a great Chinese place near me, House of Chan. It's tiny but elegant, and they use more braised and steamed foods than fried. Unfortunately, they are fairly old school and don't deliver.

joe - Leesa's been ripping me off too. Especially the erotica she writes - that's all me. :p

pink - thanks. I'll bug you for it later. :)

pbs - I'm fine now, although it seems like you may need a nap.
