Sin City

I recently watched Sin City and was blown away. If you haven’t seen it, grab a bottle of whiskey and strap yourself in front of a wide screen TV with surround sound. Lock the kids in the basement, feed the pets and put them outside. This deserves your undivided attention. Note – if watching this movie violates your parole or parent’s restrictions, just get the graphic novels and read them while listening to death metal and flooding your veins with dope.

After watching the movie I found myself internally narrating my life in Marv’s voice. “I love Jehovah’s Witnesses. No matter what you do to them, you don't feel bad.” Marv was a great character, taking the extreme dichotomy of psychotic violence and personal honor to a new level. But the character I really found intriguing was the hitman in the opening sequence. Most people portray killers as being hard and emotionless. I thought this guy was far worse - sensitive, even caring, but not hesitating to kill.

The movie also featured Devon Aoki as Miho, a sort of ninja prostitute, a cool concept but still not as hot as my Ninja Bunny Dentist. That night I dreamed Miho had been sent to spend the night with me, and then kill me in my sleep. Instead we fell in love and she committed suicide while I slept rather than kill me or fail her mission. I awoke to find her impaled on her own sword lying next to me in a pool of blood. It was a disturbing dream and left me in an altered state of mind until my sense of humor kicked in. I realized that if that really happened to me, I would awake and say to myself “Crap – am I really that bad?”

I'll have to check Sin City out. I haven't seen it yet but I've got killer surround sound. Excellent!

When are you gonna act on this dentist? What are you scared of?

I loved Sin City. I saw it in the theaters when it came out 'cause...uhhh...I'm a geek who used to collect comics as a teen, and I used to read the Frank Miller Daredevils then religiously. As life went on, I always found that whatever Frank Miller wrote was excellent. Therefore, when I discovered that Sin City was being made into a movie, even my shudders over extreme violence in flicks didn't stop me from going.

As a side note, I found out that the opening snippet with the hit man was actually what the director made and sent to Frank Miller to convince him to allow him to make Sin City. Frank Miller was certain that no director could put his comics to life like that, and so the director sent that piece to him with the message: You like, I film. You do not like, keep this to show to your friends at parties.

I will shut up now. You have tweaked my geek button. Sorry!

I liked the character but do not find the actress that played Miho attractive at all.

But other than that, I loved the movie and it's faithful to the books.

My wife and I laughed and laughed the whole time.

Is there something wrong with me?

We watched Sin City and while it wasn't Bruce's best movie, it was pretty good.

Never having read it, everything was new to me....the hit man in the very beginning kinda took me by surprise (lovely in a very creepy creppy way).

All in all, I give at 4 peanuts out of 5...:)

My good friend is convinced that she is Miho...quite hillarious actually. she'll tell people that's her name and everything. Meanwhile, during such times I am convinced that I am The Bride from Kill Bill.

Sin City is the best movie of the year. The action figures are pretty cool too - they just came out with Miho.

I completely and thoroughly hated that movie. Couldn't put my finger on it, but just hated it from start to finish.

Loved Kill Bill - hated Sin City. Go figure.

Where oh where did THE Grant go?

Oh Where oh where can he be?

With his humor so dark and his ego so large...

Did he get hit by a tree?

Saw Sin City at the theater and my wife got me the DVD for my birthday. She doesn't care for it but I've watched it quite a few times.

Great movie.

I've been wanting to watch that movie ever since J rented it and watched it downstairs and I didn't hear one noise for 2 whole hours. He was completely absorbed by it, it was so funny. After he was done watching it he talked about it for another two hours and made me watch the beginning. Now I do have to watch it, it seems pretty cool.
